about

Walking to 13 Monroe Street is a field recording of sounds in New York City, ca. 2013. This installment is part II of an audio recording taken while on a walk to the Downtown Music Gallery, New York, 2013. On the surface, this field recording is simple and direct, but creates a doubling of the number 13, which for me reiterates the notion of an address, as there is an infamous house in my parents past, where they lived when they were first married, that is always referred to in stories by its address, 1313. The labels, connect like an Einstein-Lorenzean wormhole to film and television study. It enhances the inherent sense of time travel in the “one shot” audio recording of the walk, which also creates simple kind of story arc. The references to addresses, and the presence of I can’t help but think of the character Carl Carlson, and how the scene that takes place directly at his front door is shown in two shots, one a mirror image of the other, with the address, 1212, shown first on one side of the door, and then on the other.
