The human voice repeatedly resurfaces within my works. There is something about it that attracts me sonically. One aspect of it has got to be the sheer diversity of sounds and textures that humans can vocalise. But there is a second, far more intangible allure, and that is something to do with the humanity and emotional connection that human vocal sounds inspire and encapsulate.
I am greatly inspired by the works of Luciano Berio and Trevor Wishart, who both used the voice as a sonic medium extensively, and their influence upon this work can be keenly felt.
This work is a variation and excerpt from a larger composition and uses the vocal sounds of my friend and colleague Motje Wolf as source material. I wanted to explore the possibilities of abstracting, manipulating and moulding these vocal sounds, while still retaining an sense of the original organic and human source.
