Richard Moule is a journalist, broadcaster, educator and musician from London, Ontario, Canada, who has been involved in experimental and improvised music for more than 20 years.
As a musician, Mr. Moule composes soundscapes as well as manipulating field recordings. He releases these recombinant, ambient soundscapes under the moniker, Gesumm. To date, he has released 18 CDs.
He also improvises on prepared violin and effects. He has performed and collaborated with the likes of the Nihilist Spasm Band, poet Penn Kemp, free saxophonist Eric Stach, jazz percussionist Bernie Koenig and Japanese noise musician Jojo Hiroshige, among others.
He also collaborates with composer Chris Meloche in the improvised soundscape duo, the Transmorphous Sound Ensemble. Mr. Meloche plays a table-top guitar which is processed through several digital processing devices while Mr. Moule uses as similar approach on the violin. To date, the Transmorphous Sound Ensemble has released five CDs.
Mr. Moule also continues to do soundtrack work for director Meg Howald, contributing sound designs and compositions to her seven movies.
