Hi Shaun,
How are you?
Here's a piece for your Radio Frequencies project. Since I work with radio waves all the time I wanted to do something a little bit different then I normally do. So no ELF this time. Instead I played around with an old Sanyo 6 transistor personal radio - model 6C-302. It was probably made in the 70s. It came from my wife's old family general store when they were cleaning it out.
Hi Shaun,
Here's a picture, and a bit of text, if it's useful ..
"I played around with an old Sanyo 6 transistor personal radio - model 6C-302. It was probably made in the 70s. It came from my wife's old family general store when they were cleaning it out. My parents gave me a very similar portable AM radio when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I liked to spend a lot of time tuning between the stations - moving from talk radio to motown to CBC and back again - always lingering on the more interesting crackles and whistling sounds in between the stations. For this piece I went through the dial from top to bottom and recorded a minute from each "in between" spot that I found. There were some odd "reverb-sounding" patterns in the lower end (around 700 kHz). The final collage consists of 14 patterns mixed together."
I often listen to your compilations when I'm at work. People who drop by the studio are always wondering what the strange sounds are :)
