ERIZONTE - Rulers

from cognitive dissonance by various

about

Since I was a child I was playing with rulers. Now I am fifty and still playing with rules in many meanings.
All the sounds in this recording are made exclusively by rulers vibrating over a surface. Different sizes and shapes of school rulers were used, plastic rulers and wooden rulers. The surfaces: a big and thick common table, a wooden chest, the body of an upright piano and some loudspeaker boxes. You make the ruler vibrate softer or stronger with one hand; with the other you move it to change the tune while you keep it stuck on the surface.
The recording was made with two microphones, one ambient closer to the ruler, and a pick-up stuck on the surfaces.
The edition gives structure to the piece and then there is only ambient or color effects as reverbs and some delays, sometimes. All the notes are played, there are no electronic tune alterations or sample notes
