The Whitemud is a freeway here in Edmonton connecting neighborhoods on the south side to suburbia in the southwest. It's always humming with traffic -- except for "rush" hour when the traffic slows to a crawl because it's so jammed. In the mix of this track is a recording of the Whitemud that I did one weekday afternoon. Although I enjoy the sounds of nature, it's also interesting to listen to the sounds of traffic sometimes (I find) for the varieties of noise textures overlapping in intensity -- often a big band but occasionally a soloist takes the stage.
My mom passed away awhile ago now, but she was my piano teacher from age 5 until high school -- classical music, which I had a difficult time connecting to sometimes -- okay, often. The (what do they call it) "treated" piano is a way to dig into the compost of memories and just have some fun.
