Edgard Varèse dreamt of the tools and techniques of electronic music developing in such a way as to challenge the primacy of acoustic means. He dreamt of a music of the imagination. This homage, cast into a work of four minutes and thirty-three seconds, is developed using “tape music” techniques. These are the common techniques of early electronic music – ranging from tape speed transformations, to filtering and reverberation. Often, limitations are freeing.
