about

"Operation Concrete" is the first film released by Jean-Luc Godard. The film was shot and released in 1955, when Godard worked as a construction worker, working with numerous others building a dam in Switzerland. This twenty-minute short focuses on the construction of this damn, showing conveyors going up, conveyors going down, concrete being poured on to platforms, concrete being filled into enormous barrels, and other methods that entail the construction of a dam.

Roland Emile Kuit is zooming in the process of creating the concrete and metaphoric reconstruct this process in microsounds in his "Operation Concrete"

Biography Roland Emile Kuit:
Sonic artist - composer Roland Emile Kuit started his research in the electroacoustic field after studying flute at the Royal Conservatory, The Hague. He signed up for research in electronic music at the Institute of Sonology in the 1980’s in Utrecht, the Netherlands. His teachers included Gottfried Michael Koenig, Jaap Vink, Werner Kaegi, Frits Weiland, Paul Berg and Stan Tempelaars. Private lessons by Dick Raaijmakers followed. The IRCAM in Paris provided an environment to experiment with new approaches in acoustic music composition and offered the opportunity for research of physical modeling in spectral music. Kuit was taught by Kaija Saariaho and Philippe Manoury. Roland Emile Kuit maneuvers on the intersection of art, music and science. Kuit introduced audio art to the installation area, a metamorphosis from the traditional speaker boxes into 'sonic spaces' and has taught this at the Vrije Academie The Hague, the Netherlands. Kuit’s work ranges from experimental sound-architectural installations to acousmatic performances and composing for public spaces. His work has been centered on creating chaotic systems and sound at atomic levels by structuring processes using algorithmic and stochastic approaches.

Roland Emile Kuit lectures, performs/exhibits at universities, art galleries, museums and creative hubs in Europe, U.S.A., Asia, Russia and the Baltic States.
Featured composer & sonic artist at DONEMUS - Publishing House of Dutch Contemporary Classical Music.
