Numb2it was composed in 2023. It is created from recordings of an mbira, played “correctly” and “incorrectly” to generate the unique source materials, which are then processed in a semi-improvisatory (experimental) method in Ableton Live.
Ron Coulter is a percussionist, composer, and improviser. He has presented at 100+ universities and toured internationally appearing in all 50 U.S. states, Europe, Canada, and Japan with artists such as the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Vinny Golia, David Murray, Sam Newsome, Matthew Shipp, Sean Jones, Linux Laptop Orchestra, Al Martino, Bolokada Condé, Gino Robair, Chris Corsano, Music from China, Wyoming Symphony, and Tone Road Ramblers, among others. Ron has presented work at ISIM, PASIC, NIME, LiWoLi, BMC3, a.pe.ri.od.ic, Futurisms, Soundlines, RadiaLx, VU Symposium, JVC and Montreal Jazz Festivals, etc. He is a founding member of the Percussion Art Ensemble, Drm&Gtr, duende entendre, and SeFaLoCo.
