idea of suppressing the composer's will had a huge effect on me as an improviser and composer, and tape music informs my aesthetic for electronic music. I love using drastically processed found sounds instead of "synth patches;" they have a grittiness that synthesizers cannot emulate. And, manipulating musique concrete often produces unexpected results, which goes back to focus on unpredictability and process.
The track "Forest, Road" consists of a randomly generated tone row played on a out-of-tune piano, stretched to lengths determined by Golden Mean calculations. I laid this over field recordings of the street outside my house. The entire track is subject to random "fx" from various VST's: every render and every listen changes the track.
I am a composer, improviser, and music educator in New Haven, CT.
