I wish to submit my composition 'D18' to the 'Institute For Alien Research', Concrète compilation series on “Samuel Beckett.” The specifics of my composition are detailed below.details

1. The piece is 4 minutes and 33 seconds in duration.

2. The piece is based on the manipulation of recorded sound material.

3. The piece 'D18' was made exclusively for the Institute For Alien Research Musique Concrète compilation series.

4. The theme of the piece is 'Samuel Beckett'

5. The wav file is 48khz at a bit depth of 32 bits.

6. The piece is called D18, for Dublin 18, which is the postal district for Foxrock, which is the area of Dublin, Samuel Beckett is from.

7. A description of the technical details in the creation of this pice.

a.The narrative list of Beckett's writings was created by rounding up a text list of his works, and entering this text document into a text to speech processing software. Once I created the audio sample I processed the sample using the software “MEAPsoft” which is an audio sample 'Segmenter and (RE)arranger'.

b.The sample of beckett accepting his award for his radio play, was achieved by downloading the video mp4 clip off Youtube, them importing the mp4 file into audacity. Where the audio in wav can be exported , out.

c.The sonic tone / drone was created with the amalgamation of a number of short samples, which were “Time stretched, pitched shifted, reversed, FFTed and a little spectral processing.

d. The final two tracks are a mix of a number of Beckett radio plays, downloaded from ubuweb.com, which I processed, sliced n diced, mangled, cut up, and rearranged. One of the plays is in French.
