Composition: Time-lapse sounds recorded in-situ, circuit-bent Casio MT-40
Date Recorded: January, 2013
Description: This original piece, consists of time lapse sounds recorded in situ and sounds generated from a circuit-bent Casio MT-40. The time lapse sounds were recorded concurrent with time lapse video, and the accompanying artwork is an unedited frame capture from the time-lapse video. The piece questions not only the meanings of Musique Concrete, combining in-situ recordings with entirely electronically generated sound, but also the meaning of time-lapse. Time lapse is inherently about the compression of time, but this piece takes a compressed aural experience and stretches it back out again, treating time-lapse as a concept of elasticity that can stretch and compress in either and both directions.
