For this piece I used little bits to make a potable synth which i played two notes on before
starting the timer on my clock. I setup up two iphones. One iphone was across from the performance recording video
and the second iphone had an apogee mic plugged into and I recorded the surrounding sound in audioshare app.
I sat on a park bench wearing my bike helmet and sunglasses next to a sign that had 4'33" written in sharpie
and held on by one 2.5" piece of black elerctrical tape. The park is a raised bike / walking path on top of an old
railway in Chicago. I had the mic facing up, on a tripod, and the video on the ground. I did have to move the video
camera a few times from wind and it wound up in almsot the same location as the mic. the only planned editing will
be just to trim the begining and endind excess footage that was not the performance.
performance notes: one man took note of what was going on and watched as he passed. he did not see me by the sign or
equipment as i was across the path fixing the camera. a womoan had stopped at the bench and pulled all her groceries
out of herbag and put them back in. the man thought it was her performance and seemed entrigued. she never even looked.
several conversation bits where recorded.
two trains were heard. One directly passes and th other in the distance.
the alarm was recorded in the end.
a woman with prostetic legs ran by.
several bycicles went by.
a police siren was heard.
multiple strollers, kids and parents walked by.
at least 15 joggers zipped by.
