Erica Benay Fallin - In Wait

about

In Wait is a sound artifact, a sonic curiosity. It was composed by the processed signals of this effects chain: pitch shifter, delay, bass octave, Cathedral reverb, and bass Enigma Q-balls, after I stopped playing. It is a composition of pure electronic signals, output through a bass amp. This field recording was captured on a dictation device, the Sony IC Recorder, at the end of a two hour practice, and the instrument running through the effects is an antique autoharp, which takes flight with its mysterious and haunting sonic presence. The opening 30 seconds is the last of the two hours, and as the last note fades, the Q becomes present. Its sound in this context reminds me of a life support machine, and so I did consider naming this piece Life Support, but then my focus went deep and connected with the steady heartbeat at the base. The sound is astronomical in its pulsar form, a supersonic satellite of a pensive continuum.
